THOUGHTS ON PAINTING

Artist Rusudan Khizanishvili’s signature style of monochrome characters on colorful backgrounds really comes through in this piece. While most of this author’s pieces carry complex, mixed emotions, this one is a clear depiction of a disturbing moment of loneliness and some resentment even. “Madame with a black dog” delves deep into the character of a woman who has been hurt by life time and again. While her disposition towards others, on the outside, is one of obvious apprehension, the dog she holds gets to see and feel a different side of her. The trust and bond between them, as they seem to stand alone against the world, is clearly visible.

GETTING TO KNOW RUSUDAN KHIZANISHVILI

Born to the country of Russia in the year 1979, Rusudan Khizanishvili is a contemporary artist who lives and works in the country of Georgia. She takes her influence from a number of artists that came before her, her work a reflection of the history of art while also putting her own spin on their styles. She primarily uses oil in her paintings to create a unique texture on each one. The results are paintings that verge on nightmarish with their interesting takes of the human form and of places that appear as if they could only be real in the dream world.
