Some European cities are famous for their barges and life on the river. What we seldom see in paintings is a depiction of the dead of winter on these European rivers and what life in the barges must be like during the cold, holiday season. Artist Sergey Rybak brings this image to life in an oil on canvas piece in which we can almost feel the pinch of the cold on our noses and the strong north winds on our cheeks, as we walk past the barges stuck in the frozen river and under the weight of the snow until Spring.
